British cycling industry professional living in Massachusetts with over 13 years of experience in professional journalism, television, and industry writing.

I'm a lifelong cyclist - the fourth cycling generation in the Dalton family. Watch for me riding and racing in New England (unless it's snowing, then I'm groaning on the turbo trainer in the basement instead). Here's my Strava. Let's connect!

I spend so much time thinking about cycling that it even became the subject of my Master's thesis: "I’ll climb that hill in my own way: (dis)locating the naturalized body in professional cycling's banned erythropoietin use between 1990-2010." Simmons College, with research conducted at Harvard and MIT.

 

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

SOCIAL MEDIA AND CONTENT STRATEGIST, EVERYSIGHT

December 2016 - July 2018

Consultant to nascent smartglasses brand for cyclists, driving the product from beta to 2017 launch and 2018 deliveries. Social strategy, channel management, script writing, marketing copywriting, and anything else customer-facing for a seamless experience. Branding, presentations, content calendars, GTM strategy - I've done it all.

SENIOR CONTENT MANAGER, CYCLING.TV

June 2007 - September 2013

Cycling.TV was a pioneering startup that paved the way for the digital sports broadcasting we enjoy in 2018. I managed the channel's entire editorial & video content and its community (developing live audience-commentator interactions later adopted by college sports and NHL). If you went to a bike race or training camp during these years, I was there.

2000 - Present

From my teenage years to the present, I've worked in cycling. Whether it's the Track World Championships working under future- (and now former-) UCI President Pat McQuaid, making a seminal online magazine parodying the cycling media (20k+ readers an issue), or even producing audiobooks, I've been involved my whole life.

 

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

BA (HONS), LIVERPOOL JOHN MOORES UNIVERSITY

2004-2007

First class honours degree in Media and Cultural Studies. I wrote about Tom Boonen's role in Europe's Catholic-Protestant divide, then a dissertation on the construction of nationality, gender and race in the cycling media. I wrote it in Mallorca during the Track World Championships, and interviewed riders and the media... resulting in finding a cycling industry job before I graduated.

MA, SIMMONS COLLEGE

2015-2017

MA in Gender and Cultural Studies. I conducted research into London's disproportionate rates of female cycling casualties at the hands of long vehicles, and then a master's thesis that used EPO in 1990s cycling as a case-study from which to discuss the role of performance enhancing drugs in constructing the idea of a "natural" body, and how this concept refracts back on society.
